Rainbows and Science

Rainbows and Science

Some poets believe

Scientists crippled rainbows’ aura,

When logic extended Newton’s

Earthly apple onto heavenly orbs.

Deduction led to clear thinking

Lifting hopes and dreams,

Yet uncertain facts, not physics’ hard numbers

Hobbled their reasoning machine.

Explanations and projections diverged

Until creativity connected mental strands.

From finches in Galapagos

To destinies of homo sapiens.

Defying singular understanding.

Rainbows, Science, and People

The Muse, Spring 2012 issue Howard Community College

There’s a teacher who’s sure

Science killed all rainbows.

People learned pure logic’s power when

Newton’s apple plumbed the heaven’s orbs.

Deduction limned a limitless future

Lifting hopes and dreams, but

Uncertain notions, not physics’ hard numbers

Entered the reasoning machine.

Explanations and projections diverged so far that

Creativity is demanded to complete the mental matrix.

Finches in Galapagos evolved in homo sapiens’ fate, yet

People’s actions defy singular understanding.
