I got Emergency Skin as a free Prime read. It’s a long short story, part of the Forward collection, excellent sci fi.

The meeting of a near-AI visitor and a human highlights ethical choices that mimic today’s society.

Because of the stripped-down nature of the story, certain interactions are not clear on immediate read. Paraphrasing l’Hopital on using derivatives to calculate indeterminate fractions, read forward and faith will follow.
